How do I renew my registrations?

Participants can renew their registrations online, at the track with Commission staff, or by requesting a Registration Renewal Form by calling 13 49 42.

The expiry date of my registration is changing to my birthday. How does that work?

That is correct. The Commission has moved to a birthday expiry date to make the renewal process easier and quicker. When you renew your registration, the expiry date of your registration will be your birthday in 2022. The Commission will send you email and SMS reminders three months prior to that date to ensure you renew on time.

For example, for this renewal period if you were born on 1 January, you will pay an adjusted fee calculated from 1 July 2021 to 1 January 2022. You will pay 6 months of the 1 year fee, and your registration will expire on 1 January 2022.

From 2022, participants will renew their registrations by their birthday each year and have the option to renew for a period of 1 or 3 years.

How are the adjusted renewal fees calculated?

For this year, participants will renew their registrations for one year, plus or minus the number of months until their birthday in 2022.

The adjusted renewal fees are calculated by dividing the annual fee, by 365 days, then multiplying that amount by the number of days being renewed.

  • Example 1
    Participant's birthday: 1 January
    Registration type: Attendant (1 year = $22)

    Days being renewed:
    184 days (1 July 2021 to 1 January 2022)

    Adjusted fee calculation:
Annual fee ($22) divided by 365 days (1 year) = $0.06027398 (daily fee rounded)
    184 days multiplied by $0.06027398 = $11.09 (rounded)

So, the participant would pay $11.09 by 30 June 2021, and be required to renew their registration by 1 January 2022, which would be their new registration expiry date.
  • Example 2
    Participant's birthday: 1 October
    Registration type: Bookmaker’s Clerk (1 year = $30)

    Days being renewed:
    1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022 = 365 days (1 year)
    1 July 2022 to 1 October 2022 = 92 days
    365 + 92 = 457 days

    Adjusted fee calculation:
Annual fee ($30) divided by 365 days (1 year) = 0.08219178 (daily fee rounded)
    457 days multiplied by 0.08219178 = $37.56 (rounded)

So, the participant would pay $37.56 by 30 June 2021, and be required to renew their registration by 1 October 2022, which would be their new registration expiry date.

An online calculator is available for participants to calculate their adjusted registration renewal fees.

Why has the registration expiry date changed?

The Commission recognised that having all participants renew their registrations at the same time creates delays in the processing of renewals and providing identification cards. By having participants registrations expire throughout the year allows for a quicker and easier process for both participants and the Commission. This change will also give participants the option (from 2022) to renew their registrations for a 1 or 3 year period.  A 30% discount will be offered with 3 year registrations.

When I renew in 2022, can I renew one registration for 1 year and another for 3 years?

No. You must renew all your registrations for a 1 year period OR a 3 year period. There is no option to split the renewal periods for your registrations.

How can I pay for my renewal?

At the track and online - BPAY or credit card
Registration Renewal form - Credit card, cheque or money order.

Please note cash payments cannot be accepted.

Can I pay BPay at the post office?

No. BPay can’t be paid at the post office. You can use BPay online or some banks may accept payment.

What will happen if I don’t renew by 30 June 2021?

Your registrations will expire and you will be required to re-apply for any registrations as a new participant. This will include providing a new National Police History Certificate with any applications.

If I don’t renew by 30 June 2021, can I pay a late fee instead of having to reapply?

No. There is no option for a late fee to be paid.

Do I need to provide a police check with my renewal?

During the renewal process I was asked to upload three forms of identification. Why did I need to do that?

The Commission conducts regular compliance activities to ensure the integrity of the industry is always maintained. This includes requesting National Police History Certificates for participants (at random) to ensure they have not been charged or convicted of any criminal offences.

Will I receive a new identification card?

Yes. Once your registration renewal has been processed, a new identification card will be issued to you.

How long will it take for me to get my new identification card?

Once you complete your registration, we will aim to have your card to you within four weeks. If you have not received your card within six weeks, please call 13 49 42 to let us know and we will check your contact details and issue you another card.

How will I receive my new identification card?

Your new identification card will be issued by regular post to your listed postal address.

If I don’t receive my new identification card by 30 June 2021, can I still attend a race meet?

Yes. A grace period to produce your new identification card will be available. GWIC Stewards, GBOTA and GRNSW will be advised of the grace period.

I haven’t received my new identification card as yet. What can I do?

If your card was not received within four weeks from your date of renewal, you can contact the Commission on 13 49 42 and the Registration & Welfare team can check the status of your identification card and issue a new card if required.

I was contacted about my lifetime owner registration at the end of last year. Do I need to renew?

Yes. You will need to renew your registration if you wish to remain in the industry. If you no longer wish to be part of the industry, you will not need to renew your registration and it will automatically expire on 30 June 2021.

I only have an owner registration. Will I receive an identification card?

No. Participants who only hold an owner registration will not be provided an identification card as you would not be required to present it to Commission staff.

I don’t want my registration to renew as I am planning on leaving the industry, how do I cancel my registration?

If you no longer wish to be registered as an industry participant, contact the Commission on 13 49 42 and we will arrange for your registration to be surrendered.

I have recently paid for a new 1 year registration and received less than this. Why?

Unfortunately, we had no capability to provide a pro-rata payment system when calculating fees for new registrations until the commencement of the 2021 renewal program. Clause 13A of the Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019 outlined that an expiry date must be to 30 June 2021. Any new registrations approved after 1 March 2021 will be provided a pro-rata registration fee that will calculated to the birthday of the applicant.

Can I receive a refund for the overpayment of my registration fee?

Unfortunately, no. Until the 2021 renewal program, we did not have the capability to provide a pro-rata fee and were restricted by clause 13A of the Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019 that an expiry date must be 30 June 2021.

I am about to apply for a registration during the renewal period, do I have to pay two fees?

No. You will be able to select a 1 year registration, and the prorata fee will calculated from the date of your registration is approved (between 1 March to 30 June 2021) until your birthday in 2022, which will be your registration expiry date.

I am about to apply as a new participant, or for an additional registration. Can I delay the approval until after 1 March 2021?

Yes you can. We will also be contacting new applicants to advise them if they wish to delay their application to ensure they only pay one initial registration fee.

I am a new industry participant. Can I obtain a 3 year registration?

No, not this year. This year, you will need to apply for a 1 year registration which will expire on your birthday next year. From 2022, when you renew your registration you will have the option to renew for 1 or 3 years.

Why can’t I obtain a 3 year registration as a new participant?

The Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019 does not allow for a registration period more than 3 years. When a new application is received, and depending on when the birthday of the participant is, the adjusted pro-rata fee would exceed 3 years. To ensure we meet the Regulation, we can only offer you a 1 year registration this year, then when renewing your registration next year, you will have the option to renew for 1 or 3 years.

I wish to downgrade my registration from public trainer to owner trainer or trainer to attendant. What do I need to do?

If you wish to downgrade your registration, please complete a paper renewal form and write “downgrade” on it. We will then be able to process your renewal and downgrade your registration.

I have a current credit owed to me. Can I use this for my renewal?

Yes, you can. However, a credit can’t be used through the online portal. Please complete the paper renewal form and please write on it “Please use my credit” so this can be applied.
