Reporting information to the Commission

Should you wish to provide information regarding a welfare or integrity related issue within the New South Wales Greyhound Racing Industry, you can contact the Commission via the following avenues:

Remaining anonymous

Should you wish to remain anonymous to the Commission, you may report a welfare or integrity related issue via the Commission’s online portal (whispli). This system assures anonymity through a password protection system along scrubbing your IP address so it will never be passed onto the Commission.

What happens once your information is provided?

Upon receipt of your information, the Commission will assess the information you have provided to decide what action will be taken. The course of action is informed by the nature of the purported matter and applying a risked-based and outcomes focused approach.

The Commission considers the following aspects in this process:

  • Seriousness of the offence or breach
  • The compliance history of the participant or individual
  • Reliability/Availability of information or evidence
  • When the offences or breaches occurred

Assessment of Information (complaints)

The Commission is committed to assessing all information received within two business days.

Once the information is assessed, the Commission may take the following action:

  • Contact you to obtain further details and information (non anonymous)
  • Undertake a formal investigation into the matters raised
  • Commission Inspectors may undertake an inspection of the subject property
  • Refer to the Commission’s Operational Review Committee (ORC) for consideration
  • File for future intelligence purposes
  • Refer the matter to another agency (i.e Police, RSPCA)
  • Refer the matter to another Racing Authority
  • Refer the matter to Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC); or
  • Take no further action

If you have chosen not to remain anonymous the Commission will advise you of the outcome of its assessment of your complaint(s).

When will I be updated on the progress of any action taken?

The Commission’s Customer Charter requires the Commission to:

  • Complete non-complex investigations within 30 business days of receiving actionable information.
  • Complete complex investigations within 90 business days of receiving actionable information.

In certain matters the Commission will be able to advise you of the progress of matters related to the information provided, however, in matters that are subject to investigation, formal inquiry or other sensitive processes, the Commission may be unable to provide updates until the matters are finalised.

However, once an investigation has been completed the Commission will advise you of the outcome if you have indicated that you wish to be advised.

What if I am not happy with the way that the Commission has handled my complaint?

Should you be dissatisfied with the Commission’s handling of the complaint(s) that you have lodged with it, you are able to seek a review via the Commission’s complaint and disputes processes. For more information about this or to lodge a request for a review click here
