Industry updates / New advice for Trainers registered for GST in affected LGAs

Following the NSW Government Health Orders further restricting the movement of people in the Fairfield, Liverpool, and Canterbury-Bankstown LGAs, GRNSW and GWIC have been in discussions around reducing the impact on our participants in the affected areas, while also adhering to all Government’s orders and health objectives targeting these areas.

In doing so, GRNSW and GWIC have observed the Government’s strict approach to essential and authorised workers, and resolved to introduce a contactless transport plan to provide essential workers (eligible, full-time trainers) in the affected areas, the opportunity to maintain their employment by racing their greyhounds.

For these purposes, essential workers in the affected LGAs are defined as those registered for GST, who can therefore demonstrate the income derived from racing their greyhounds is heavily relied upon to maintain a livelihood.

The trainers residing in the affected LGA’s that fit these criteria have been directly contacted by GWIC.

If these participants can satisfy GRNSW and GWIC that they can comply with proposed strict biosecurity protocols which have been communicated to them and all other Health Orders, particularly those that stipulate ‘authorised workers’, they will be allowed to have their greyhounds transported by an approved means as detailed in their biosecurity plan to the track for the purposes of racing only. These authorised trainers will not be allowed to travel with their greyhounds under any circumstances.

GRNSW and GWIC will continue to work with the greyhound racing industry in NSW, with the aim of limiting the disruption to business operations whilst observing the importance of the NSW Government’s work and objectives.
