Regulatory / Accreditation

The Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission is developing a new registration and accreditation scheme. The new framework means whoever is responsible for the care of a greyhound at any point in time will have clear, enforceable obligations and will be required to meet accreditation and education requirements to obtain and retain their registration.

The accreditation scheme will apply to:

  • owners
  • breeders
  • rearers
  • educators
  • trainers
  • attendants

The accreditation scheme takes into account responsible breeding practices which will result in more considered decisions about sires, brood bitches and mating, and in the approach to early care of greyhounds, to increase the proportion of greyhounds bred that race competitively.
