The Greyhound Industry Reform Panel recommended the separation of regulatory and commercial functions in greyhound racing into two distinct organisations.  Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) will retain the commercial functions and the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission will carry out all regulatory functions, once it becomes operational from 1 July 2018.

From 1 July 2018, the Commission’s regulatory functions will include:

  • To control, supervise and regulate greyhound racing in NSW
  • To initiate, develop and implement policies relating to the welfare of greyhounds
  • To undertake research and investigation into any aspect of the breeding of greyhounds and of greyhound racing
  • To consult with animal welfare bodies in developing changes to legislation relating to the welfare of greyhounds
  • Registering greyhounds, licensing greyhound racing industry participants and greyhound trial tracks
  • Preparing  and implementing the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Greyhounds
  • Reviewing and amending the Greyhound Racing Rules
