The Greyhound Industry Reform Panel recommended the have retained the commercial functions and the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission took over all regulatory functions, when it became operational on 1 July 2018.

The Commission’s regulatory functions are:

  • To control, supervise and regulate greyhound racing in NSW
  • To initiate, develop and implement policies relating to the welfare of greyhounds
  • To undertake research and investigation into any aspect of the breeding of greyhounds and of greyhound racing
  • To consult with animal welfare bodies in developing changes to legislation relating to the welfare of greyhounds
  • Registering greyhounds, licensing greyhound racing industry participants and greyhound trial tracks
  • Preparing  and implementing the Code of Practice for the Welfare of Greyhounds
  • Reviewing and amending the Greyhound Racing Rules
