Greyhound applications & notifications / Request to clearance trial a greyhound

Request a Clearance Trial

There are two types of clearance trials participants can request. A solo clearance trial requires a greyhound to run a particular distance at a registered racetrack in order to be cleared by a Steward. In a competitive clearance trial, a greyhound must compete against two other greyhounds at a registered racetrack in order to be cleared by a Steward.

Some trials, such as a Return to Race trial, will require early attendance at the track. Please see below for further details. Any special requirements for a trial will be confirmed with you prior to confirmation.

Requests for clearance trials are to be made online via eTrac. They can be made at any time and will be processed after fields are confirmed for the requested meeting. All requesters of trials will be notified of the outcome of their requests as they are processed.

All requests for clearance trials must be submitted no less than three days before the meeting.

Types of Trials

Competitive Clearance Trials

A Competitive Clearance Trial is required for the following Racing Rule breaches:

  • Marring/Fail to Pursue (R 123/124)
  • Failing to pursue due to injury (R 125)
  • Unsatisfactory performance (R129)
  • Turning in the boxes (R106(1))
  • Blinkers Trials (R 91)

Requirements
  • Trainers must source two other greyhounds to compete against their trialling greyhound.
  • Incapacitation (stand-down) periods still apply.
  • The greyhound must complete a competitive clearance trial of the same distance or greater at the track that the offence occurred in order to return to racing at that track and distance. A trial at a different track and/or lesser distance will clear the greyhound to race at all tracks except for the track that the offence occurred and only for races up to the distance of the trial. See LR132A for more information.

Solo Clearance Trials

A Solo Clearance Trial is required for the below Racing Rule breaches/reasons. For a return to race trial, trainers will need to be on track 30 minutes before kennelling commences so a GWIC veterinarian can examine the greyhound.

  • Cramping trial (R 130)
  • Satisfactory weight trial (R102)
  • Return to racing (R 135)
