Greyhound applications & notifications / Greyhound retirement
The Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission has an updated Re-homing Policy which took effect on 1 December 2019. This refers to standards such as preparing a greyhound for re-homing and an owner’s obligations when retiring a greyhound to another person. A copy of the Re-homing Policy can be found here. Failure to comply with this policy is an offence under Rule 86(ag) of the Greyhound Racing Rules, and may result in disciplinary action.
If an owner of a greyhound wishes to retire the greyhound as a pet to themselves or an organisation or person not registered with the Commission, a retirement notification must be submitted to GWIC within 10 days from the date of retirement.

It is a requirement of the Re-Homing Policy that information regarding the greyhound’s diet, housing, exercise regime, health, behaviour, preparation for rehoming, medication and vaccination history is to be provided to the new owner of the greyhound.
Below is a template to assist participants in meeting this requirement.
