Greyhound applications & notifications / Exporting or Importing a greyhound

Under Greyhounds Australasia (GA) Rule 44 any person exporting a greyhound(s) to another country (excluding New Zealand) must obtain a Greyhound Passport and certified pedigree issued by GA, prior to meeting the requirements of the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS).

All exporters must apply for the Greyhound Passport directly with GA. For more information on Greyhound Passports and to download the application form, please visit GA's website.

Exports to New Zealand

When you export a greyhound to New Zealand a greyhound for racing purposes you must notify the Commission that the greyhound has changed a location within 3 days after this change under clause 10(3)(a) of Greyhound Racing Regulation 2019.

If you are registered with the Commission as a greyhound participant in NSW and you send your greyhound to New Zealand to race whilst retaining ownership of that greyhound, you must comply with the Commission’s Rehoming Policy. In practice this means that you must make multiple genuine attempts to rehome the greyhound in accordance with the policy at the end of the greyhounds racing career. A greyhound owned by a NSW registered participant cannot be euthanised at the end of its racing career in New Zealand without first complying with the NSW Greyhound Rehoming Policy.

This is even if New Zealand (or any other State in which your greyhound is located) has different policies that govern rehoming or euthanasia.

Exports to other countries (excluding New Zealand)

After obtaining a Greyhound Passport from GA, you must notify the Commission within 14 days of the export of the greyhound by completing an Export or Import of a Greyhound Notification form.
