Greyhound applications & notifications / End of life notifications
GWIC has an updated Re-homing Policy which took effect on 1 December 2019. A copy of the Re-homing Policy can be found here.
The Re-homing Policy specifies the minimum requirements that greyhound owners must meet in attempting to rehome their greyhounds. Failure to comply with this policy is an offence under Rule 86(ag) of the Greyhound Racing Rules, and may result in disciplinary action.
The Euthanasia of a Greyhound – by a vet, Emergency Euthanasia of a Greyhound – not by vet and the Greyhound Death Notification forms must be completed and returned to GWIC within 2 days of the death or euthanasia.
Where a greyhound owner has met the minimum requirements of the Re-homing Policy and intends to have the greyhound euthanased, the owner must notify GWIC of their intention to euthanase the greyhound by lodging a completed Notification of Intent to Euthanase Greyhound form at least 10 business days before the greyhound is to be euthanased.
After waiting the specific timeframe, the owner must submit the Euthanasia of a Greyhound – by a vet form within 2 days of the euthanasia taking place.
