The Commission has a range of powers to monitor and enforce compliance, ensure animal welfare standards are upheld, and to oversee the integrity of the industry.

  • Investigating complaints
  • Undertaking inquiries
  • Auditing, including random, periodic and annual audits
  • Conducting hearings
  • Taking disciplinary action, including issuing work orders and penalty notices, imposing conditions on licences and cancelling or suspending licences
  • Entering and searching public premises, the premises of licensed participants and licensed facilities
  • Lawfully entering private/residential premises with a search warrant
  • Inspecting and seizing things on any premises lawfully entered
  • Obtaining video and photographic evidence, once lawfully on a property
  • Obtaining and using evidence from lawful covert surveillance
